Fairs of Jammu Kashmir are a mirror to the rich culture and heritage of the state. All the communities of Hindu, Muslim, and Buddhists celebrate each others festivals with equal passion.

Jhiri Mela
Jhiri Mela is held to commemorate, death of Baba Jitu, who preferred to kill himself rather than to succumb to the unjust local lord. He killed himself in the village of Jhiri, 14-km from Jammu. Baba’s followers and devotees from all over India assemble here. People revere him for his compassion, courage and honesty. A fair is held every year to mark the occasion.

Bahu Mela
Bahu Mela is held in Bahu fort of Jammu to pray for blessing of the goddess Kali.The fair is held with great enthusiasm and gaiety. The fair is conducted twice in the month of April and October. The fair is comprised of Joy rides, temple vision, holy dip in the Tawi River, and shopping of daily use items.

Purmandal Mela
Purmandal Mela is held at Purmandal in Jammu to celebrate Mahashivratri, the occasion of marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. During Shivratri whole of Jammu is in joyous mood and all the places resemble as a fair.

Mansar Food and Craft Mela
Jammu and Kashmir tourism department organizes this fair to promote local craft and food. The fair is organized on Baisakhi for three days at Mansar Lake in Jammu. The fair is visited by people from other states as well.
Other fairs held in the state are Chaitra Chaudash mela in Jammu, and Hemis festival fair in Laddakh.
