Fairs of KarnatakaKarnataka organizes an array of fairs to demonstrate its multifaceted history, culture, and heritage. The fairs are a stage for social meeting and enjoyment. Most of the fairs are held around the temples of deities to mark some religious event. Sri Vithappa Fair Sri Vithappa fair is held to honor God Vithappa. The fair lasts for three days after festival of Shigi Hunnive. A palanquin carries the god Vithappa in a procession accompanied by drummers. Around eight thousand people visit to enjoy the occasion. People sacrifice animals in the temple. Another Some devotees bring milk and if it changes to curd then it is taken as good sign. Villagers from Chunchanoor pick out grains in palm from bags kept in the temple and these grains are to be sowed for rich yield that year. Godachi Fair Godachi fair is organized by Karnataka government in the month of Kartik. The fair is held to honor Shri Veerabhadra on the occasion of Maha Shivratri. The fair is held at Godachi village in Ramdurg Taluk of Karnataka. Idol of the deity is carried in a palanquin in a carnival accompanied by drum beats. Shri Yellamma Devi Fair The fair is held at Yellamma temple, situated in Saundatti area of Belgaum district. The fair is held for 5 times between October and February but one held on the day of full moon in Margshira month is popular. Banashankari Devi Fair This fair is held at the temple of Banashakari Devi in a forest near Badami in Karnataka. The goddess is said to be a form of Goddess Parvati. The fair lasts for 10 days in January month. Sale and purchase is the main part of the fair. A grand Rathotsava held on the occasion is the main attraction.
