Fairs of Madhya PradeshWhile fairs and festivals have a religious background in other states, it is an ethical and tribal confluence in Madhya Pradesh. The fairs are a place of carefree revelry, drinking bouts accompanied by exotic entertainment like cock-fighting, uninhibited dancing, etc. State sponsored fairs like Khajuraho Dance festival, Tansen Music festival and Mandu festival are a conjuncture of culture and heritage. Khajuraho Dance Festival Khajuraho celebrates and glorifies its ancient privilege and culture by organizing classical dance of India. The fair is organized in an outdoor auditorium next to the Khajuraho temple. This festival is a weeklong affair. Famous personalities attend the fair. Kathak, Kuchipudi and Bharat Natyam are the main attractions of the occasion. An open market of handicraft is also held near the auditorium. Bhagoria Fair Bhagoria fair is a unique fair of its own kind. The fair is famous among the tribal Bhil youths. Unmarried youngsters put colors on each other to express agreement after which they elope from the place to marry. The fair is held before Holi in the Jhabua district. The fair symbolizes love, color and life. Tansen Music Festival This festival is associated with poignant ragas and mellifluous notes of Indian community. The festival is organized to commemorate and pay tribute to Tansen the great singer of Akbar’s court. The festival draws music connoisseurs from all over the country. Kumbha Mela Ujjain has the honor of holding the famous Kumbha fair in the city. The Kumbha fair is organized once in twelve years. The fair is a witness to congregation of millions of persons from all part of the world. Noble persons, sages and devotees take a dip in the holy water of Shipra River.
