History of Rajasthan is laced with legends of great Rajput warriors. The fairs of the region are a concatenation of elaborate rituals, history, and astrological transformations.

Pushkar Fair
Pushkar fair is held at a distance of 13 km from Ajmer. The fair is held for twelve days in the month of November every year. It is the largest cattle fair in the world. Cattle of all breeds are brought here for buying and selling. Ash smeared sadhus, cattle and colorfully attired people add to the whimsical charm of the place. Pushkar has the honor of having the only Lord Brahma Temple. Visitors can buy Naguar glass items, beautiful fabrics, Merta rugs, brass items collected from various districts of the state.

Bikaner Camel Festival
Camel festival is a colorful and joyous event in Bikaner town. The camel procession starts from Junagarh fort in the month of January. Attraction of the fair is sweets made up of pure camel milk. Camel dance, tug war, and acrobatics are performed by camels.

Elephant Festival
Elephant festival is held in Jaipur, the state capital of Rajasthan. Well decorated elephants walking in a line are a spectacular event for the tourists. This carnival is followed by horses and other performers. Other main attractions of the occasion are elephant show, tug of war between elephant and men, and polo.

International Kite Festival
The land of violent wars is also a land of Kite wars. International Kite festival is organized in Jaipur on 14th January, the day of Makarsankranti. The festival lasting for 3 days attracts large number of expert Kite flyers. Numerous kites of different color, size and structure flood the sky on the day. The final day is prize distribution day in Umaid Singh Bhawan.

Mewar Festival
Mewar festival is a cultural and religious gathering in Udaipur city. The festival is celebrated to mark the arrival of spring season. The festival coincides with Gangaur festival held in the same city. Image of Gangaur and Isar is taken throughout the city in a grand procession on the occasion. Cultural events are held during the festival.

Marwar Festival
Marwar festival is held in Jodhpur city in the month of September-October. The festival is organized for two days. The festival reflects the art and culture of the city. Folk dance and songs narrating the heroic deeds of the Rajput kings are the prime attraction.

Desert Fair
Desert Fair is held in Jaisalmer district is funded by Rajasthan government. The fair is a unique place to watch turban tying competition, and Mr. Desert contest, and camel race. The fair is held in the month of February.

Teej Festival
Teej festival is held in Jaipur every year in the month of Shravan. The festival marks the coming of monsoon. The day has a religious significance that Lord Shiv and Goddess Parvati were married the same day. The festival is basically a woman festival, enjoyed by young and newly wed females.

Baneshwar Fair
Baneshwar fair is organized at Dungarpur at the confluence of river Som and Mahi. Baneshwar is the name given to lord Shiva, deriving its name from the delta which is called ‘ban’ in local language. The fair is actually a tribal fair in which thousands of Bhil tribesmen gather from nearby districts.

Chandrabhaga Fair
This fair is held on the bank of river Chandrabhaga in Jhalawar. The fair has a religious importance as thousands of devotees take a dip in the sacred water on the occasion. The fair is also famous cattle fair in which cattle are brought from long distances to sell.

Mahavir Ji Fair
Mahavir Ji fair is held in Chandan gaon at a distance of 174 km from Jaipur. The fair is held near Mahavir Ji temple in the month of March-April. A Rath Yatra is carried out on the occasion.

Kaila Devi Fair
Kaila Devi Fair is organized in Karauli famous for its red sandstone. People gather to worship at the temple of Kaila Devi in the month of Chaitra. The fair is normally a social and cultural gathering.

Other famous fairs of the state are Gogamedi Fair, Kolayat Fair, Ramdeora Fair, Shilpgram Crafts Mela, and Urs Festival in Ajmer.
