About Almora
Almora, once capital of kumaun kingdom founded by King Balo Kalyan Chand in 1563, is a picturesque place in the Himalyan territory. The city was under the rule of Kytur and Chand dynasties for around 400 years. The forts, palaces temples and other historical remains of those times are good place to visit. The architecture of slate stoned houses and roads is purely traditional.

Almora is situated on the top of a horse shoe shaped mountain peak which is a part of 5 km long mountain range. Kaushik and Shalmali rivers flow nearby the town. Placed in the lap of Himalayas, it is a great place to view the panoramic snow clad mighty Himalayan range. With all its serenity and peaceful environment it is great place for tourism.

Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, filmmaker Guru Dutt, dancer Zohra Sehgal, Swami Vivekanand and Mahatma Gandhi were some of the great persons who visited and were touched by the beauty of this place.

Best Time to Visit
Although Almora can be visited any time of the year the best suited is between May to September when the temperature is modrate.

State Museum : The state museum situated near the bus stand is huge collection of rich past heritage of Almora. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday between 10.30 AM to 4.30 PM.
