About Himachal Pradesh
Himachal Pradesh is prominent hill station in India, popularly called as “Dev Bhoomi”, or the land of gods. The region was ruled by Aryans, Mauryan, Mughols, Sikhs and the British directly or indirectly. The small kingdoms in the area were combined to form Himachal Pradesh in 1948.

The state is blessed with diversified natural beauty with peaceful mountains, fresh water rivers, and natural flora and fauna.

Interesting Tourist Spots in Himachal Pradesh
Himachal Pradesh is a visitor’s delight with numerous tourist spots. Most favored and visited places in the state are Shimla, Kullu/Manali, Dolhousie, Dharmshala, Chamba and Palampur.

Shimla : Shimla the state capital of Himachal Pradesh is one of the prominent hill stations. It has its name derived from goddess Shyamala, an incarnation of goddess kali. Beautiful landscape, lush green valleys, swift rivers, flower beds and pious temples of Shimla place it at the top of the list for tour and travels.

In Shimla, one can visit the Mall - a business center, Viceregal Lodge - an academic place, State museum and many hills like, Jakhoo Hill, Annandale, Summer Hill, Chadwick Hill, and Prospect Hill. Shimla has also many picnic spots, like, Glen, Sanjauli and Daranghat Sanctuary. Many beautiful temples are also located in Shimla making it a perfect place for religious, adventure and wildlife tourism.

Kullu / Manali : Kullu known as “valley of gods” has its name mentioned as Kulantapitha, in ancient epics Ramayana, Mahabharata and Vishnu Purana. It was regarded as the last point for human civilization. Kullu is filled with beautiful flowers in the spring season.

In Kullu the places that can be visited are, Raghunathji Temple, Vaishno Temple, Jagannathji Temple, Bijli Mahadev Temple, Great Himalayan National Park, and Kanawar Sanctuary- a place for Thar goat.

In Manali tourists can visit, Kothi- which gives a perfect spot to view the Beas river gorge, Solang Valley- from where one can view the beautiful glaciers and do trekking, Rahala Falls- a picnic spot, and Manali Sanctuary.

Dalhousie : The place is named after British Viceroy of India who visited the place. Dalhousie is surrounded by enormous forest wealth, filled with pine and deodar trees.

Dharamshala : Dharmashala is famous for its lush greenery, wooden hills, and water streams. Macleodganj is a place known for Tibetan settlement filled with markets and food with Tibetan flavor. Other places are St. John Church, Kunal Pathri temple, Bhagsunath Temple and many other picnic spots.

Chamba : The city was found by Raja Sahil Varman in memory of his beloved daughter Champawati in 1000 AD. It is isolated from the rest of the region by high mountains. The place is full of temples and natural picnic spots.

Roadways : Most of the state is connected by roads but most of them are closed in winter and rainy seasons due to snowfall and landslides.
