About Shimla
Shimla is a famous hill station covered by majestic pine and deodar forests. The place derives its name from Goddess Shyamala an incarnation of Goddess Kali. Lord Lytton planned the city, making it suitable to be the capital of British India during summer.

Shimla is located in northwest Himalayas. The nearest river is Sutlej and two tributaries of Yamuna River flow at some distance from the city.

Best Time to Visit Shimla
Best time to visit Shimla is between the month of May and July. Tourists can also visit the place between September and November to enjoy the snowfall and ice skating.

Temples : Jakhu Temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman is prime temple among all the temples. A visitor can view the snow clad mountain peaks, and an eye catching sun rise and sun set. Other temples are sankat Mochan Temple, Kali Bari, and Tara Devi temple.

Himachal State Museum and Library : The museum is good repository of ancient sculptures, coins, clothes and many other objects of historical importance.

Botanical garden and Viceroy Lodge : This was the summer home for the viceroy of British India. The lodge is surrounded by a beautiful garden visited by tourists.

Hill Spots in Shimla : Shimla has a bunch of beautiful and exotic hill spots favorable for picnic. Some of them are Glenn Hill, Potter Hill, Summer Hill, Prospect Hill, and Elysium Hill. Annadale, a famous picnic spot is covered with scenic-silhouettes of dense green forests.

Roadways : Shimla is located on national Highway NH22. It operates public transport to major cities of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Chandigarh.
