Nilgiri Mountain Train TourDuration : 4.30 hours Destinations : Mettupalayam - Coonor - Ooty (Udgamandalam) Nilgiri Mountain Railway is one of the oldest trains and a World Heritage Site in India. The train huffs and puffs through a steep hill region taking many up and downs joined by arched route. The train uses a unique climbing method at acute curves. The method is called ABT or Alternate Biting Teeth of the Rack and Pinion System. The train climbs the railway track as if a person climbs a ladder. The train has its engine in front while going down and on backside while climbing up. The main slanting is between Mettupalayam to Coonoor. After this period the journey is relatively easy. The journey by Nilgiri railways keeps us in a tight position giving a boost to our adrenaline. The train moves between scenic hilly areas and tea gardens. The lush green area creates a romantic atmosphere. A combination of thrill and romance is only found here on the ride of Nilgiri Mountain Railway. A tourist can board down at Coonor to catch the panoramic beauty of the place. Sim's Park, located in the midst of a ravine, has over 1000 species of plants. Then we will visit Lamb's Rock, where you can view the Burliyar ravine and the plains of Mettupalayam. Lady Canning's Seat is a point said to have been visited by the Viceroy's wife. You can go to Dolphin's Nose, which is a rocky projection in the hill-side. Saint Catherine falls, Law's falls and Kateri falls are the panoramic waterfalls in the region. Ruin of the Droog Fortress is good for excellent bird-watching. Ooty, the final stoppage of the train is a famous hill-vacation resort. It is also famous for the adventure sport facilities, like, trekking, fishing, and hang gliding available to the tourists.
